FAQ

What is the difference between population and sample standard deviation?

Population standard deviation divides by N (the total count), while sample standard deviation divides by N-1 to correct for bias when working with a sample of a larger population. Use population when your data includes every member of the group, and sample when your data is a subset.

What happens if there is no mode?

If every value in the data set appears exactly once, there is no mode and the calculator displays "None." If multiple values tie for the highest frequency, all of them are shown.

How is the median calculated for an even number of values?

When the data set has an even number of values, the median is the average of the two middle numbers after sorting. For example, the median of 1, 3, 5, 7 is (3 + 5) / 2 = 4.

Can I paste data from a spreadsheet?

Yes. Copy a column of numbers from Excel or Google Sheets and paste it directly into the text area. Each row will be treated as a separate number.
